"Why do Jeep owners wave at each other?", "Why didn't they wave at me, I have a Jeep?", "Is there some secret Jeep code I don't know about?", "What is the Jeep Wave?"
The "Jeep Wave" is two fingers up in a "V" shape.
Legend has it that the "Jeep Wave" began during World War II.
It served as subtle gesture to differentiate between enemy and ally.
Once the war ended and the soldiers came home, they purchased their own Jeeps and the "Jeep Wave" was used as a simple greeting from one soldier to another.
Soon, civilians began to purchase Jeeps and kept the gesture. It became a way to show shared interest or hobby in Jeeps.
Did You Know?
There is a hierarchy to the "Jeep Wave". It is based upon how well your Jeep fits the purpose of an original Jeep and how much you use it for what Jeeps were meant for.
The Lower-Ranked initiate the wave and the Higher-Ranked return it.
Older Jeeps are higher-ranked than newer Jeeps.
