A tune up is a big part of routine maintenance. Routine maintenance varies from vehicle to vehicle, but plays a key role in keeping your vehicle running and performing the way it should.
Has your vehicle gotten a tune-up? We asked random customers and these were some of the responses we received when asked the question:
When is the last time you had your vehicle scheduled in for a tune up?
"last year sometime", "a little over two years ago", "I just got the car three years ago, so I don't need a tune up yet","when I got the car, so about 5 years", "I've never had a tune up, do I need to get one?".
What is a Tune Up?
A tune up is like a refresher for your vehicle.
A Basic Tune Up generally includes:
Oil Change
Spark Plugs
Ignition Wires or Coils
Air Filter
Cabin Air Filter
An In Depth Tune Up includes everything that comes with a basic tune up but additionally includes:
Fuel Filter
Transmission Filter
Transmission Pan Gasket
When Should I Get a Tune Up?
To keep your vehicle performing at its best, we generally recommend getting a basic tune up about every two years or 24k miles and an in depth tune up roughly every four years or 48k miles. If you have an Owners Manual for your vehicle, take a look at it. Usually, near the back of the book you will find your vehicle specific maintenance schedule.
Have you purchased another vehicle? We always recommend getting a tune up when you buy a pre-owned vehicle. That way you can ensure you know the maintenance and scheduling for you new ride.
Why is a Tune Up Necessary?
A tune up helps extend the life of your vehicle. Performing this maintenance at scheduled intervals will insure a clear spark to your engine and fresh motor oil to reduce sludge buildup. It will also provide clean filters to allow your engine to "breathe" and filter out any particles or debris that may cause harm to your engine.
After reading this blog we hope you understand the importance of what a tune up is, how it will affect your engine and when this scheduled maintenance should be done.
