7 Easy Steps to Make Your Vehicle Last Longer

No one likes buying a vehicle and having it crap-out on them within a few years. It feels like throwing away thousands of dollars for a few rides around town. Just like your body, if you take care of it, it will last a long time. Take a look at these 7 simple steps you can take to prolong the life of your vehicle.

#1. Keep up with Regular Maintenance.

You don't know how many times we tell customers, maintenance is a crucial part of owning a car. Spend the little bit of money now on preventative maintenance and that will save you a lot of money in the long run. See Preventative Maintenance Helps.

#2. Change Your Air Filter.

A clean filter means your engine is running smoother and you will get better gas mileage. It also means less allergens building up inside your vehicle. Read more about Why it's Good to Replace Your Air Filter.

#3. Do Regular Walk-Arounds.

At least every month give your vehicle a once-over. Walk-around the outside of your vehicle and take a look at it. Check for dents or scratches, check the tires and look to see if any bulbs have burned out. Pop the hood and inspect the hoses. Look for anything out of place.

#4. Slow Down on the Tracks.

Cruising over the train tracks like you're riding in the General Lee may sound fun, but your car screams out in pain every time. The high speed hurtle hurts your suspension, messes with your vehicle's alignment, and wears your tires down more quickly. So take it easy when going over train tracks.

#5. Stay Cool.

Keep up with your coolant! When your vehicle overheats, it will literally start to melt the components inside your engine and cause it to break down.

#6. Don't Ride the Clutch.

Resting your foot on the clutch pedal creates unnecessary friction, this friction creates heat and this heat puts unnecessary wear on your clutch.

#7. Wash Your Car.

Without regular cleaning, your vehicle will develop rust. You can develop rust as early as 4 years after purchase. Hand-washing your vehicle is best because you can be sure to clean the hard to reach areas.

Now that you know 7 easy steps to make your vehicle last longer, what are you waiting for? Get out there and prolong the life of your vehicle!
