Don't Ignore These 6 Smells From Your Car!

Other than the smells of air freshener, the pieces of chicken nuggets under your kids car seat, or the aftermath of a regrettable lunch from a certain famous restaurant with a bell, those funky smells can tell you something! Your Nose Knows!

If you smell any of these listed, you’ll want to contact a mechanic as soon as possible.


1. Burnt Rubber

The smell could mean a slipping belt, or loose hose rubbing against something.

Do not reach in if the engine is hot!


2. Hot Oil

Oil could be leaking onto the exhaust.

Check for leaks on the ground and smoke coming from the engine area.

Turn off the engine before checking for a leak!


3. Gasoline

A likely sign of a fuel leak.

Immediate action needed, possible fire hazard!


4. Syrup/Sweet Smell

May be a sign of a coolant leak.

Do not open the radiator cap when it is hot!


5. Burning Carpet

Possible sign of brake trouble.

Have your brakes inspected.

Brake trouble is a serious safety hazard!


6. Rotten Eggs

This smell could mean a catalytic converter is not working properly.

A poor running engine can cause the catalytic converter to fail!
