It's that time again! Time to pack up the car, load up the kiddos and head out! ROAD TRIP!
Wait... Does anyone have to use the bathroom before you leave?
Going on a road trip with kids can be awesome or your worst nightmare... (Have you ever seen the movie, "Are We There Yet?") But no really, just remember to breathe and enjoy yourself! Road trips are fun, you get to see many things along the way... look a cow!... you spend some quality family time and you get to have a blast once you reach your destination!
Before Traveling
Always make sure your vehicle is up o par before heading out on a road trip. What should I do? Read How to: Get Ready to Road Trip.
Plan Ahead! Are you going sight seeing? Make sure you check the weather and make reservations if you can.
Bathroom breaks before you leave is a must!
What to Bring
Snacks and Drinks, especially ones that the kids can open without help
A roll of paper towels and a garbage bag (trust me, coming from a parent, you're going to need it)
Special toy or blanket, nighttime stuffed animal
If you're tech savvy- kids tablet, charger (car & wall), videos to watch during the ride
Having an unplugged trip? Road games, fun music, paper and crayons/pencils
sunscreen, change of clothes (for the car ride), light jacket
While on the Road
Play Road Trip Games!
Plan to stop frequently for bathroom breaks and to stretch your legs
If you can try not to travel solo, bring another adult to share the responsibilities like driving, bathroom duty, pumping gas, etc.
Never leave kids (or pets) in the car by themselves. In 85 degree weather, even with the windows slightly open, the inside of a car can heat up to 102 degrees in just 10 minutes!
Remember to breathe!
All in all, have fun and enjoy the ride!
