We have many milestones in life, from taking your first steps, to learning how to ride a bike, to sharing your first kiss. Learning how to drive is another one of those milestones. While it can be a bit nerve-racking at first, you will get the hang of it as long as you are sure to follow the Rules of the Road.

Take Drivers Ed in high school!
Effective July 1, 2014, a person age 18-20 who did not take an approved Drivers Ed course in high school must successfully complete a 6 hour Adult Drivers Ed course before obtaining a Drivers License.
Nighttime Driving.
Although teens need at least 10 hours of night driving (with a parent or guardian) there are restrictions.
Sunday-Thursday: 10 PM - 6 AM
Friday & Saturday: 11 PM - 6 AM
Local curfews may differ, so you need to check with your town to see what curfew times apply.
Access to Records.
Parents and Guardians can view their teens (under 18) driving record through the Secretary of States website. There are security questions to obtain this information, just to make sure only parents or guardians are accessing this information.
Hands Free Law.
Illinois is a "hands free" state. Meaning it is prohibited to use your cell phone or other electronic device while driving; it must be hands-free like Bluetooth. BUT for drivers under age 19 cellphone use is prohibited, INCLUDING HANDS-FREE DEVICES. (Except in an emergency)
