During the colder months we tend to hibernate inside where it's warm and not want to brave the cold outdoors. But our vehicles are left exposed to the elements and brutal temperatures. Now that it's starting to get warmer, the sun is shining and we are ready to bust out the shorts and flip flops, we have to remember our vehicles need to adjust to the weather also.
Here's how to get your ride Summer ready:
1. WASH YOUR CAR
Clean off the Winter blues from your car. Make sure you get the undercarriage option so you can wash away all of the salt and road grime.
2. CLEAN FLOOR MATS & INTERIOR
Along with washing the outside, the inside needs a good scrub, too. Clean out all the snacks that fall down in the cracks and replace floor mats if they don't come clean.
3. CHECK TIRES & ROTATE
Spring time is always a good time to inspect your tires. Swap out your Winter tires (if you have them) and get a tire rotation done.
4. REPLACE WIPERS & TOP OFF FLUID
Wipers can get worn down fast during the winter. Between freezing to the windshield and scraping away ice, now would be the perfect time to replace those old worn out wipers. While you're at it, top off your wiper fluid so you can clean your windshield as necessary.
5. ADDRESS ANY LEAKS
Now that it's warming up, leaks will be more prominent. Check for spots on your driveway or parking area and schedule an appointment with your mechanic if you notice any leaks.
6. GET AN OIL CHANGE
Your vehicle works harder during the winter. Getting an oil change will give your vehicle a fresh clean burn and help with performance.
7. CHANGE CABIN AIR FILTER
Now is the BEST time to change your air filter. Get rid of all those nasty odors and flu allergens that have been trapped in your filter over the winter months.
8. SERVICE BRAKES
Have you noticed any pulsing or grinding coming from your brakes or the brake pedal? Sometimes salt and road grime can build up on your pads or rotors and cause this. Other times it may be corrosion on your brakes.
9. FIX SCRATCHES/DENTS
Fender benders are common during winter and can sometimes be a pain to fix during the cold. Now that it's getting warm, give your car a once-over and get those dents, and scratches fixed.
10. GET A SUMMER EMERGENCY KIT
Swap out your winter emergency kit with a summer one. Emergencies happen no matter what time of year. Better to be prepared.
