Stuck at home with the kiddos? Stay at home order in place? Running out of board games and crafts to plan for the week? Have a anxious teen ready to get behind the wheel? Now is the best time to teach your children Maintenance 101! Having your child help you with simple maintenance can boost your child's confidence and set the foundation for getting into a routine for when they own their own vehicle.
Inspect the wiper blades. Clean them. Do they need to be replaced?
Check you air filter, explain how an air filter works. Replace if needed.
Inspect your belts for fraying or cracking
Check and top off your vehicle's fluids.
Are you due for an oil change? Have your teen help you change the oil and oil filter.
Check the tires (don't forget the spare!). Show your child "The Penny Trick" to checking the tread depth. Have an older child help you rotate your vehicle's tires.
Have an older child help you do a tune-up.
Make a Car Emergency Kit.
Have little ones color a few car coloring pages
Wash the car! Little ones love the water and bubbles!
Be wise about what tasks your child will be ready for. Having a toddler swap out a radiator would not be the best decision. But an older child can help you with this task. Overall, be safe and have fun teaching your kids a little car maintenance 101!
