How To: Good Car-Keeping Skills

Updated: Feb 14, 2021

Are you healthy? Do you keep yourself in shape? (yes, even round is a shape!) What about you house, do you keep it clean and in good shape? The same can be said about your vehicle! Do you keep your vehicle in tip-top shape?

Do you have good car-keeping skills?

Keep your vehicle in shape! May is National Good Car-Keeping Month, but anytime is the perfect time to develop good car-keeping skills!

  • Stay on top of routine maintenance! When was the last time you had your tires rotated? Or got the oil and oil filter changed? Keep a log of this information in your glove box. That way you can keep track of your maintenance.

  • How about a car wash? Salt, dirt and grime can eat at your vehicles paint. Be sure to get a car wash at least once every month.

  • Fix any dings, dents and scratches now, while the weather is nice. Fix the small problems before they become a bigger issue and a major headache. Use touch-up paint for small scratches, and clear nail polish for small window chips.

  • Clean the inside of your car! Toss out trash and old receipts, consider adding a small pop up trash can to the inside of your car to catch any garbage you collect along your travels. Vacuum out dirt, dust and debris (don't forget under those car seats!). Foaming carpet cleaner and a scrub brush does wonders on carpet stains!

  • Don't forget the trunk! We haul all sorts of items back there, so give it a quick vacuum to clean up any crumbs or debris may be hiding in there. While you're at it, check out your spare tire! How is the tread? Does it have enough air? Inspect your jack to make sure it is still in good condition. Do you have an emergency kit? Consider preparing one, just in case you need it!
